How to prepare for the storm

Did you check the forecast today? When you have outdoor furniture, that’s a habit you should acquire so you and your patio are prepared for any weather.

Below is our quick guide on steps to take whether you are leaving for the weekend or preparing for the storm.

Tie your umbrellas, always.

We always suggest to close and tie your umbrellas when you are packing up for the night, but especially during bad weather, we cannot emphasize this enough - close and tie your umbrellas.

If you have umbrella covers, slip them on, zip and tie to ensure a snug fit. During tropical winds, go the extra mile and put another tie on top of the umbrella cover. This will ensure that the cover doesn’t fly off, the umbrella stays closed and everyone is safe.

Lastly, check your base fasteners - make sure the knobs are tight, holding the umbrella pole steady in place.

Put away your cushions.

If you don’t have furniture covers, hide the cushions in your storage box or bring them indoors. While Sunbrella fabric will hold up to the rain, the wind can take the cushions across the yard - or worse - and get them dirty. During heavy rains, the cushions will also get soaked and take longer to dry out.

Put a cover on it.

If available, put your furniture covers to use. They will keep debris and water away, and keep your cushions dry.

Pro tip: when covering a dining set, put an empty bucket in the middle of your table to create a pitch - this way water will run off rather than pool.

These are simple steps you can take every day to ensure your furniture lasts and doesn’t wreak havoc on your patio when weather arrives. And best of all, your outdoor furniture will be ready for you to enjoy once the sun comes out.
